Trucker on longshot quest to unseat Mississippi GOP governor
JACKSON - A trucker with a CB handle "Silent Knight" is trying to drive Mississippi's Republican governor out of office.
The election is Tuesday. Even though Democrat Robert Gray is being outspent exponentially by an experienced politician, the first-time candidate has parked his rig to focus on the campaign.
Republican Gov. Phil Bryant has spent $2.7 million to seek a second term, and still has $1.4 million in the bank.
Gray has spent about $3,000 in the past three months.
He won the Democratic primary in August without spending a dime and without even voting for himself because he was busy running errands that day. Gray didn't even tell his mother and sister that he had signed up to run for governor.
