Troopers: 22-year-old dump truck driver lost control in deadly crash
BATON ROUGE- State Police released the name of a dump truck driver who lost control, crashed, and died in a wreck that shutdown Greenwell Springs Road Monday morning.
The closure lasted much of the day. It slowed traffic north of Stoney Point Birch Road.
Investigators said Will E. Wright, 22, died. Wright was from Hammond.
Troopers said Wright left the roadway where it makes a gradual turn to the left. Instead, the truck went off the highway to the right and into a ditch where it hit a culvert, went airborne, and hit a tree.
Wright was not buckled in, authorities said.
The truck was hauling gravel at the time of the crash.
