Trial underway for mother accused in murder of 11-month-old daughter
>BATON ROUGE - A mother accused of the murder of her 11-month-old daughter is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
29-year-old Ashley Heard faces charges of second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile for her perceived role in the death of her infant, Aaliyah, back in 2013.
Aaliyah died after she received a severe blow to the head. Police said the little girl was found unresponsive at the scene with bruises, cuts and cigarette burns found on her body. Investigators later confirmed the child's cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head.
The girl's father, 27-year-old Larry LeFlore, is charged with first-degree murder.
An arrest affidavit indicated LeFlore got angry when the girl wouldn't eat her food. The infant's six-year-old sibling reported to police that LeFlore beat Aaliyah before putting her to bed on the day she was found responsive and later died.
