GONZALES - The trial of a man accused of raping and murdering an 18-year-old Ascension Parish woman in 1990 could go to the jury today.

Tolbert Morris is accused of abducting Tammy Lanie Bowers in March 1990 from a convenience store near St. Gabriel, then raping and murdering her.

The case went cold until investigators matched DNA to Herman Frazier in 2006, who told a jury yesterday he was riding with Morris when the man abducted Bowers and raped her as well. He pleaded guilty in 2010 to manslaughter, rape and second-degree kidnapping in connection with Bowers' death, in exchange for testifying against Morris.
