South Boulevard was meant to be a major connector between the interstate and the casino at Catfish Town. East Baton Rouge Parish traffic engineers say signal lights were set with that in mind. That gave drivers on South Boulevard more green light time.
Now adjustments are being made. New lights with an antique style have been installed in the downtown area. That includes South Boulevard at Nicholson and South Boulevard at Highland. The lights are being set according to more updated traffic counts. Nicholson and Highland drivers are expected to see more green as a result.
The signals can be linked with other signals around town, and multiple settings can be used for things like rush hour and hurricane evacuations.
The new signal lights are being paid for by your tax dollars from the Project Green Light program.
