BATON ROUGE - The state is spreading the word about traffic issues with a new smart phone app.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation's "Way to Geaux" traffic app was released to iPhones and Android smart phones Thursday.
The app works by sending a voice alert to traffic incident near the subscriber.
Several features include only getting updates in the direction the driver is headed and only in the radius the driver chooses.
"You can set it to two miles up to a 1500 mile radius and it will pick up anything in that radius as you're driving down the road," DOTD spokesman Dustin Annison said.
"At any point you come across an incident in that radius that you set, It's going to play that incident on your phone as you're driving," DOTD traffic center supervisor Greg Griffin said.
'Way to Geaux' is free to download.
