It's the first day for Toyota fixes in the Baton Rouge area, and many Toyota owners have lined up for repairs.
Toyota recalled eight-models because of potentially sticky gas pedals. Those pedals caused some cars to accelerate un-controllably. The first shipment of repair pieces made it today to Team Toyota in Baton Rouge.
The piece required to fix the problem is barely the size of a thumbnail. It’s called a "shim." To make the needed repairs, the mechanic takes out the pedal, removes a metal plate and snaps-in the shim.
Subsequently, the shim keeps two smaller gears from touching each other and causing the pedal to stick. For safety, once the petal goes back into the car, mechanics double check with a diagnostic scan. The whole fix takes, roughly, 45 minutes.
If you have one of the Toyota's on the recall list, you should call your dealer to make an appointment to have the repair done. If you're planning on buying a new Toyota, dealers will scan all vehicles before leaving the lot.
