VALLEY HEAD, Ala. - Residents of northeast Alabama turned out Thursday for the funeral of three children killed in a fire on Christmas Day.

Three caskets were arranged in a school gymnasium in Valley Head. The Rev. Pat McFadden of First Baptist Church in Fort Payne recalled that the children, 13-year-old Roxana Jasmine Mejia and her brothers, 11-year-old Josue and 10-year-old Rommy, had been at his house a few days before Christmas. He said the three are now "in the house of the Lord."

Tara Kirby taught all three at different times. She described them as smart and loving and said she was blessed to have known them.

The children were visiting relatives in Houma, La., when the fire occurred. Their parents and a brother survived.
