Towboat and barge hit, close bridge
GROSSE TETE- A back-country route out of lower Iberville Parish is shutdown due to a boat's collision with the bridge over the Intracoastal Canal Friday.
Sheriff Brett Stassi said no one was injured, but the swing mechanism on the bridge that connects Bayou Jacob Road to Highway 77 was broken. A towboat and barge hit the bridge at about 9 p.m.
The Coast Guard will inspect the bridge.
I-10 is the alternate route. There is no estimate on when the bridge will reopen.
