NEW ORLEANS - An EF-3 tornado touched down on the North Shore in the town of Bush as severe thunderstorms moved across the area. St. Tammany Parish Director of Emergency Preparedness Dexter Accardo says at least five people suffered minor injuries and one person was taken to the hospital.

Accardo did not say how or where the injuries occurred. The tornado also caused extensive damage to several homes near Jenkins Cemetary Rd and Highway 40.

The National Weather Service says the tornado packed winds up to 140 miles per hour.

There were also reports of hail associated with the line of storms.

Some minor damage was reported in the western part of St. Tammany Parish.
