GONZALES- Jurors took about an hour to find a Carville man guilty of kidnapping, rape and murder for the 1990 killing of an Ascension Parish woman.

Tolbert Morris, 56, was accused of abducting 18-year-old Tammy Bowers and raping her before killing her.

The jury returned guilty verdicts for the charges of second-degree murder, aggravated rape and second-degree kidnapping.

"Completely happy, more happy than I've been in my whole life," said Joyce Zuvich, Bowers' mother, "we've waited a long time for this day."

After 22 years, some investigators who started on the case, say it's a relieving to see it finally come to an end.

"It's a pretty special feeling to have a case that you worked on, finally come to a conclusion, and to see the family that's waited so long for justice, to see their wish fulfilled," said Tony Bacala, who originally worked the case in 1990.

Prosecutors earlier decided they would not seek the death penalty against Morris, he'll be sentenced in October, when he could face life in prison.
