BATON ROUGE- East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's deputies busted up a burglary ring Wednesday, and they credit the captures to a new surveillance program and nosey neighbors.
Detectives say the Monticello area has been a target for thieves for a few weeks, so they set up a stake out to look for crooks in action. Deputies got help Tuesday and Wednesday when neighbors called in suspected burglaries just seconds from where detectives were doing surveillance. On Tuesday, two men were caught fleeing a home, on Wednesday, four men were scared away from a home by authorities then caught.
Deputies say the pair could be tied to almost 30 burglaries, while the four are facing charges for seven crimes at this point.
Neighbors say they feel more safe since the arrests, and deputies hope it sends a strong message to any would-be thieves.
Authorities are not sure if the two groups are connected, or whether more arrests will be made in the cases.
