BATON ROUGE – A ninth-grade student in Baton Rouge was arrested today after sheriff’s deputies said they found an unloaded gun and marijuana in his backpack.

The 15-year-old is a student at Scotlandville High, and was arrested after another student anonymously reported seeing the gun to a school resource officer.

Deputies were called after that report, and said they found an unloaded .40 caliber handgun and five bags of marijuana in the student’s bag.

The student will be charged with carrying a firearm on school property and possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute it.

Students with information about similar incidents are encouraged to contact a school administrator, or the call the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office at (225) 344-7867.  Students can also text “CS225” plus their message to CRIMES (274637).
