Timothy Vessel forced into recall election
GONZALES - Councilman Timothy Vessel will be forced to defend his job after 2,188 voters signed a petition demanding he leave office.
Vessel is one of two councilmen, including Gary Lacombe, that face the recall, likely to be held in December, after the Save Gonzales campaign worked for months to take the two men to task.
"That to us means these people want a change, they know what's going on in the community. They want a change, they want Gonzales back to the way it was. They want people to be able to come in here and have a chance to start companies," said Chairman Chuck Leblanc.
The group is now planning a campaign to convince citizens to vote the two men out of office.
"We've got a lot of things going on, we're getting additional people. That's encouraging, and we're gonna have a strong ground game, I can tell you that. We're gonna be like Coach Miles," said Olin Berthelot, likening the next two months to the second half of a heated football game.
The group hopes to show voters that regardless of what the two councilmen argue their voting record should be enough to pick a side.
"They're gonna try to back track on their voting record. We're gonna pull the voting record. It's gonna be available for all the voters to see," said Berthelot, "They've voted 3-2 numerous times and always against the people."
The recall election is expected to be held on December 6th, but that must be confirmed by the governor first.
