Timeline for plugging well for good
The final steps in plugging the blown-out well in the Gulf for good, will have to wait until after Labor Day.
The government says they plan to replace the failed blowout preventer first.
Then work on drilling a relief well will continue. Mud and cement will be pumped in from the bottom of the blown-out well.
If all goes as planned, the final plugging will begin after September 6.
The decision was made overnight.
