Tigers vs. Tarheels: Elimination Game at the CWS
The LSU Tiger baseball team has one more game guaranteed in Omaha, after that it's up to them. LSU will face North Carolina in an elimination game at the College World Series with the winner staying another couple of days.
It's the second time the Tigers and Tarheels have met at the CWS in recent years, with UNC beating LSU two games in 2008. The second a 7-3 elimination game that sent the Tigers packing for Baton Rouge without winning a game.
Today's contest will do the same for the loser.
The Tarheels are 57-11 on the season, hitting .305 as a team with 48 home runs. LSU is hitting .306 with 47 home runs on the season.
The pitching match-up features LSU lefty Cody Glenn who hasn't pitched in a game since the SEC Tournament back in Mid-May. Glenn has a 2.41 ERA with a 7-2 record in 82 innings pitched. UNC will run freshman righty Trent Thornton to the mound. Thornton started the season as a mid-week pitcher, however has had a predominant role as a closer for the Tarheels. The youthful looking freshman has a 1.28 ERA with a 11-1 record in 84.2 innings pitched.
First pitch in the game is set for 2:08pm.
