BATON ROUGE - National Signing Day has been a mixed bag of results for the LSU Tiger football program, as they've filled needs on their roster, however missed out on some of the top talent in the state.

The Tigers, who plan to take 25 commitments, have signed 22 players so far.

Les Miles was dealt an early blow when defensive end Toshiro Davis from Woodlawn HS in Shreveport flipped on his verbal commitment to the Tigers and instead signed with Mack Brown and the Texas Longhorns. According to KTBS's Tim Fletcher Davis said that the vibe in Tiger Town turned him off. "Some of the players don't seem that happy down there, " Davis told Fletcher moments after signing with the Horns.

It was just the latest pothole in a rough recruiting swing for the Tigers. Miles and his staff lost out on QB Gunner Kiel earlier this year when he switched from LSU to Notre Dame. The third ranked quarterback in the country saying he'd rather play closer to home.

The top prospect in the state, safety Landon Collins from nearby Dutchtown, was a strong commit to Alabama before the National Championship loss to the Tide, and he never wavered on his selection. Collins made it a no brainer announcement today, as he wore a Roll Tide sweatshirt saying his desire to play in the NFL and feeling comfortable on campus led to his decision to go out of state.

These disappointments have left a sour taste on the Tiger fan's tongues.

LSU has signed a number of linebackers and defensive backs, both positions of need on the team. So far five linebackers and five corners have signed with the Tigers. LB Kwon Alexander was a surprise pick up from Alabama on signing day for LSU.
