BATON ROUGE - They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but many Tiger fans admit their cherished Death Valley needs some work.

Now the Tiger Athletic Foundation is paying for a $9 million makeover for the aging stadium. The plan includes resurfacing concrete walls after years of wear and tear.

The first of three projects slated to begin in February updates the west side entrances. The chain-link fencing is potentially gone and replaced with columns and what looks like wrought iron.

The west and north sides of the stadium will receive new lighting. The north side will get new entrances including a special team entrance.

A portion of the west lot will become SEC Champions Plaza with vertical monuments and wall mounted plaques denoting the achievements of the Tigers over the years.

As if it were an omen of what's to come, behind the bronze statue of Mike the Tiger, in the middle of the west side, a National Champions Plaza similar to the one at Alex Box Stadium will sit.

All of these changes have to be voted on by the LSU Board of Supervisors at their next meeting next Friday.
