BATON ROUGE - Travel planners and LSU fans are calling this weekend's BCS announcement the "Cotton Bowl Curve ball."
Many were anticipating LSU would play in the Cotton Bowl, and were surprised when the BCS announced LSU would play Clemson at the Chick Fil A Bowl on New Year's Eve.
Travel Planner Jim Dumigan has been booking trips for three decades, and said it's rare that he's caught off-guard like this.
"It was really what I would call the 'jilted boyfriend syndrome,'" Dumigan said. "We were somewhat misled and betrayed because we were led to believe that LSU would go there."
Dumigan had a plane and bus on reserve to take excited Tiger fans to Dallas. He had to cancel all of those reservations.
"When you get quotes in the paper or media from administrators of the bowl indicating LSU's the leader in the club house, looks like we will go there and people make plans then," Dumigan said. "They are disappointed."
Other Tiger fans also echoed those same sentiments.
"I think it's pretty embarrassing to reward a 10-win team with the Chick Fil A Bowl," Dexter Dugas said. "But I think it's our best opponent, Clemson, so I think it will be a good game."
Other fans were more optimistic.
"I think it will be alright, as long as we win either way," Sam Triche said.
"It's going to be great," Cliff Vannoy said. "LSU will have a great series against Clemson."
Dumigan says all-inclusive trips to Atlanta for the Bowl Game start at $600. More information can be found by visiting his website.
