75-year-old man seriously injured after boats collide in Iberville Parish

PLAQUEMINE – The Iberville Parish Sheriff said three people, including a 75 year old man, were injured after a boating accident in Bayou Sorrel Saturday afternoon.

According to Brett Stassi, the incident happened around 4 p.m. Saturday near Plaquemine. Three people were hurt after two boats collided, pushing one boat onto a wooded area on the bank of the bayou.

A spokesperson for the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said the 75-year-old man was injured when another boat collided and continued over his boat. 

Stassi said a 75-year-old man was not ejected, but suffered severe life threatening head injuries. He was airlifted to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge.

Deputies have not released the man's name at this time.

A married couple from Brusley, La. that was riding in the second boat were also injured but refused medical treatment at the scene.
