Three-foot pothole closes Baton Rouge street
BATON ROUGE - Repair work in the 1500 block of Government Street is expected to finish up by tomorrow, if all goes according to plan according to traffic officials.
Authorities closed Government Street in both directions after a leak in a sewer pipe underground. By Wednesday afternoon crews have reached the pipe and are working to determine how bad the leak is.
Depending on the severity of the leak the fix could be made by Thursday, according to the Department of Public Works.
The Department of Transportation and Development sent out the notice of the emergency closure, but because the problem was determined to be a leak in the sewer line the situation was handed to DPW who is responsible for maintaining the line.
