INDEPENDENCE - Deputies in Tangipahoa Parish arrested three men they said were caught stealing scrap metal from a building.

Major Ginny Higgins with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office said they got a tip Monday that three men were inside a gated building on S. Fontana Rd. in Independence.

When detectives arrived they said they found Ulyss Powell standing at the gate being handed the stolen property from Moyenda Stirgus and Eric Marshall.

When back up arrived, deputies say the three fled the scene in a blue pickup.

Deputies stopped the truck and arrested Powell; the other two ran from authorities but were caught and arrested shortly after.

Deputies were able to get back all of the property stolen from the S. Fontana property.

All three suspects are charged with burglary.
