Three arrested in St. Amant murder
ST. AMANT - Sheriff's deputies arrested three people in connection with a murder in Ascension Parish Friday night.
Deputies Barry Lee Diggs, 57, of New Orleans on suspicion of first-degree murder for the shooting of Fred Martin, Jr. Friday night in St. Amant. They also arrested Dana Milano, 45, and Louis Topham, 39, both of St. Amant, on drug charges and being principles to first-degree murder.
Chief Deputy Tony Bacala said Martin and Diggs went to Milano and Topham's home on Stringer Bridge Road late Friday night, where Diggs shot Martin in the driveway. Bacala said Diggs fled on foot and later got some friends to give him a ride to Baton Rouge.
Deputies identified Diggs as a person of interest in the case Sunday, and Bacala said that same day the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office located him with narcotics on his person. Deputies arrested Diggs on the narcotics charges, and he was booked Monday in Ascension Parish on the murder charge.
The case is still under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office at 225-621-INFO (4636) or by sending an anonymous tip to 847411.
