Thousands won't have power during freeze
PONCHATOULA- About 1,000 people in Tangipahoa Parish are still without power and there are scattered outages amounting to a few hundred in other areas serviced by Entergy Tuesday morning.
Power began to fail as temperatures dropped into the 20s.
A message about the outages on the company's website reported "due to the winter weather that is presently over your area, we are experiencing numerous scattered outages." The message suggested power could be restored by midnight, when forecasters predict the temperature to be at about 23 degrees.
Around I-12 between Hammond and Covington, nearly 900 people were without power. In Plaquemines, about 250 Entergy customers are out and fewer in East Baton Rouge and Ascension.
DEMCO also reported a few outages Monday evening.
