Thousands of LSU students graduate today
BATON ROUGE - Spring commencement at LSU saw record breaking numbers of students getting their degrees.
An LSU spokesperson said 3,953 students received degrees, which is the largest amount of degrees awarded at a single commencement surpassing May 2012's 3,824 students.
The university said records were also set for African-American, Hispanic, female and degrees awarded.
The ceremony included a keynote address by U.S. Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus and legendary guitarist Buddy Guy received an honorary degree for his outstanding career in music.
The university also took the opportunity to honor the first group of African American students to desegregate the LSU undergraduate program on the 50th anniversary of their enrollment, according to a university representative.
