LAFAYETTE - Call it a mega-vigil, two-thousand people attended a community event to remember the victims of the deadly mass shooting at a movie theater here last week.

Fifty congregations planned the memorial service, held at once church near the intersection of I-10 and I-49. The keynote speaker: hero teacher Jena Meaux.

Meaux was shot in the leg during John Houser's bloody rampage last week, but managed to save her friend's life and the lives of others when she pulled the fire alarm in the theater, alerting others to the events unfolding inside.

"There was so much evil in that theater last week, but I felt God's presence," she told the huge crowd gathered to hear her and to worship together.

Houser shot and killed two people and injured nine others before he killed himself. All but one person remained in the hospital as of this post.

Funeral services and vigils were held Monday across the Lafayette-area.
