Thousands without power as afternoon storm passes

BATON ROUGE – Thousands of people are without power Wednesday afternoon after a small thunderstorm brought heavy rains and lightning to the Baton Rouge area.

According to Entergy, more than 5,500 people are without power in East Baton Rouge Parish. As of 5:45 p.m., outages include areas south of Government Street between Interstate 10 and areas south of Airline Highway near Interstate 110.

Entergy said crews are working to restore power in those areas as quickly as possible. Customers can expect to have power by 10:30 p.m.

Entergy also reports that 232 people are without power in Iberville Parish.
