Thieves test faith when they steal safe from area church
ROBERT- Thousands of dollars in donations were stolen from a church Monday morning.
The thieves hit Crossgate Church and took the entire safe, which weighs close to 100 pounds Louis Husser, the pastor, said.
"They knew exactly where it was," he said.
Inside the safe was money from Sunday's collection during services and also funds raised by kids at the church's vacation bible school. The money the kids raised was going to be donated to missionaries doing work in the Philippines. There was cash and checks in the safe.
"It will be a good lesson in forgiveness for the kids," Husser said.
Husser said his friend is a pastor at a church in downtown Ponchatoula, a few miles away, and said the pastor there reported the doors had been damaged in what appeared to be a botched burglary.
Crossgate Church is considering ways to recoup the loss, including raising more money for the missionaries.
