BATON ROUGE- Snatch-and-grab cell phone thefts seem to be a growing trend. One of the most recent happened in a busy restaurant while the victim was sitting next to his phone on a dining table.
"We didn't see anybody walk in behind us because we were so focused on the game; and out of no where, a young man walked in and just grabbed my phone... which was right by my plate," the victim said.
He asked not to be identified.
After the thief snatched his phone, he chased him into the parking lot and was assaulted.
Baton Rouge Police made an arrest in a case that could be connected to this one, and recovered his cell phone.
The best advice from police to people about this, stay vigilant.
"He could have followed him to see what he was driving and gotten as much information as he could have gotten instead of confronting him," said Corporal L'Jean McKneely.
