Thieves hit church, steal 300lb. safe and cash
WALKER- Police are looking for leads after a church was burglarized and a 300 lb. safe was stolen overnight.
"It appears that the offenders entered the Church building through an unsecured window," said Walker Police Capt. John Sharp, who sent a news release about the crime to media Thursday evening.
Police were called when workers at Walker Baptist Church noticed the crime when they got to work earlier in the day.
The thieves apparently forcefully made their way into church offices and stole money from a cash box and the entire church safe.
The safe is 2 ½ feet tall, 2 feet wide and 2 feet deep Sharp said.
Police believe the crooks got in initially through a window, and made their way through the facility and into the office space.
The church is on Florida Blvd., and police ask people to think if they noticed anything suspicious in that area Wednesday night after 11 and before Thursday morning about 3:30.
