Thief robs Hancock ATM of $126,000
The thief who overcame several layers of security to rob a bank's automated teller machine of
about $126,000 was driving a late-model, white GMC van.
The Advocate reported on Friday that Police Chief Scott Ford said Thursday night's theft took only about four minutes.
The thief apparently had detailed knowledge of the machine's inner workings and security procedures.
Ford says there was not a tool mark or a pry marks a bend in the door. Ford believes the thief has done it before.
A surveillance camera showed that the man exited the van from the side doors and that the cargo compartment appeared to have bins or trays for parts or tools mounted inside.
When open, the ATMs doors obscured the view of the thief as he took boxes of cash from the machine, Ford said.
