NAPOLEONVILLE - Louisiana State Police said a Thibodaux man died in a fiery wreck with an 18-wheeler Tuesday morning in Assumption Parish.

Trooper Evan Harrell said the wreck happened just after 6 a.m. on LA 308, and that 58-year-old Don Williams Jr. died as a result of the crash.

Investigators said the tractor trailer was making a turn at the intersection of LA 308 and Nellie Street when Williams' SUV collided with it. State Police said the SUV caught fire after the collision and Williams was not able to escape the flames.

Trooper Harrell said speed on Williams' part is suspected to be a factor in the wreck, and investigators are waiting for his toxicology tests to come back.
