Today's "Weather News" focuses on archived events in 2012. We identified four episodes of severe weather in our area and the most recent tornado outbreak in Zachary and Baker on December 17th. Hurricane Isaac grabbed our attention on August 28th with the most notable flooding damage in LaPlace. On October 29th, Hurricane Sandy's tropical-storm force winds incorporated 943 miles of the northeast coast. In the contiguous U.S., July was the warmest ever since record keeping in 1895. The Great Drought of 2012 impacted 61.8 % of the country, the largest since the Dust Bowl drought of December, 1939. Wildfires burned 9.2 million acres with 3.6 million in August. Finally, Kentucky and Southern Indiana were the hardest hit areas from the massive tornado outbreak on March 2nd and 3rd.
