Thanksgiving Day murder suspect arrested

PLAQUEMINE - A man wanted for a Thanksgiving Day murder is in custody after being arrested on the other side of the river, authorities released late Wednesday.

Jerome Gray was arrested in the Sherwood area of Baton Rouge and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail. Eventually, he'll be transferred to a facility in Iberville Parish. Gray was captured with help from the U.S Marshal's Task Force, Plaquemine Police and other local and state authorities.

Gray was charged with murder in the shooting death of Derick Askins,32. Askins was gunned down Thanksgiving evening near Canal and Church Street in Plaquemine.

Gray will be booked at the Plaquemine Police Department Thursday afternoon.
