LAKE CHARLES - Louisiana State Police have now charged a Texas woman with first-degree vehicular homicide after a passenger in the vehicle she was driving died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash.

State Police spokesman James Anderson says 74-year-old Millie Powell of Port Arthur, Texas, was initially charged with first-degree vehicular negligent injury after the March 1 accident. Anderson says Powell's vehicle collided with the rear of another vehicle on Louisiana Highway 109.

Anderson says 92-year-old Rubye Jones, also of Port Arthur, was riding in the car with Powell and was injured. Jones died on March 3.

Powell was charged on the night of the crash with DWI, careless operation, expired driver's license and first-degree vehicular negligent injury.

Powell's bond has been set at $30,000.
