Texas prosecutor's slaying rattles colleagues
KAUFMAN, Texas - Some prosecutors say the fatal shooting of a Dallas-area prosecutor is disturbing for all those trying to protect the public from criminals and their misdeeds.
That's after a masked gunman confronted Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse of Kaufman County in a parking lot and shot him multiple times Thursday. Federal, state and local law enforcement agents and officers are still looking for a suspect in the killing in Kaufman, 30 miles southeast of Dallas.
The longtime district attorney in nearby Anderson County, Doug Lowe, said prosecutors "are a tight group of people." The shooting "reminds us all that we deal with some very, very bad people." Consequently, Lowe says he plans to take the pistol from his office desk and carry it with him.
