NEW ORLEANS - Federal prosecutors say a 46-year-old Texas man faces up to five years in prison and $250,000 in fines after pleading guilty to making calls and text messages threatening to injure a Louisiana resident.

A news release says Isaac Medrano of Corpus Christi pleaded guilty Wednesday to transmitting a threatening communication in interstate commerce.

Prosecutors say a victim identified only by the initials K.B. filed a complaint in December 2011 and FBI agents arrested Medrano in Texas on Jan. 5.

Investigators said he used "vile and obscene language" in a series of threats from Sept. 1 to Dec. 11 of 2011.

His sentencing is scheduled for March 27.
