LAFAYETTE - A Texas-based organization that helps search for missing people has been involved in the search for a missing Lafayette college student who is feared dead.
Texas Equusearch came to Acadiana last week to assist local authorities with the search for Mickey Shunick.
Tim Miller, director of the Houston-based nonprofit, said Lafayette police contacted him after arresting Brandon Scott Lavergne. Lavergne has been booked with first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping in the Shunick case. No body has been found and police have not revealed the reasons they now believe Shunick is dead.
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette student has been missing since May 19.
A grand jury is expected to consider the case July 18.
