A dog was beaten with a baseball bat in Livingston parish, and three teens were arrested.
People living in Springfield say the dog known as Johnny Walker was everyone's pet, and they believe the accused teens abused Johnny's trust. The attack probably would've been worse, if not for Kevlin Sibley. He sat in his truck last weekend and was suspicious a few neighborhood kids might break into a home.
Instead, they lured the dog from the porch. The kids only got one hit before Sibley scared them off, but stains on the porch show the damage was already done.
Sibley and Jason Mulveny rushed the Beagle mix to the vet. His jaw was broken so badly, he couldn't close his mouth.
They didn't have the money to fix it, so the neighborhood reached out to other animal lovers on the pet talk Web site. That help got Johnny up and around with two metal plates in his jaw.
Johnny Walker is expected to make a full recovery, and the neighbors started a fund for abused animals in his name.
