Teen's recovery promising, family seeking help
SORRENTO - The family of a teen still recovering from a deadly New Year's Eve accident is looking for help with the financial troubles that will soon follow.
Wednesday, Dakota Guedry, 18, and Erin Guillotte, 17, were hit by a car while crossing Highway 22 on their ATV around 10 p.m.
Guillotte died at the scene. Guedry suffered a fractured skull and brain trauma.
Friday, doctors told the family Dakota's brain finally stopped swelling.
"There is swelling but it hasn't increase and it hasn't decreased. He is in need of reconstructive surgery for his ear. But that is not our major concern because they can't do that until after we get over the brain trauma," Dakota's mother Crystal Guedry said.
Crystal Guedry is expecting her son to have a long and intensive recovery.
To help with the financial hardship, the family has set up a GoFundMe account online in Dakota's name, asking for blessings and a silver lining during their most difficult time.
"I'm very very sorry for what happened to Erin. If I could have been in her place, I wish it could have been me. I really would. I would rather it be me then this lady lose her daughter," Crystal Guedry said.
