Teen accidentally shot by friend during duck hunting trip
LIVONIA- A teenage boy is fighting for his life, after a duck hunting accident in Pointe Coupee Parish.
It happened Saturday morning on Grosse Tete Bayou in Livonia.
Sheriff Bud Torres says the 15-year-old was with two childhood friends the same age when the hunting trip went wrong.
"These three young men are all avid hunters and outdoorsman this is a tragic accident," says Torres.
Authorities say one of the boys accidently shot the victim in the head while aiming at a duck, critically injuring him.
Authorities are withholding the name of the teen. But it hits particularly close to home for Torres who says he's a distant cousin, who says the community has come to the families' side.
"They're all at the hospital as you would imagine. A lot of the families and friends are there," he says.
