COVINGTON - A teacher at a St. Tammany Parish private school was arrested Wednesday after she allegedly bit down on a small child's face.

According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, 28-year-old Heather Marcotte is charged with felony cruelty to a juvenile after the incident.

The sheriff's office says the victim's parent called authorities after she picked up her 2-year-old child from Northlake Christian School last week and noticed a bite mark on his cheek. The school informed her that her son’s teacher reported leaving a mark on the child when her mouth accidently hit his face. The administrator said the teacher had been terminated following the incident.

During the investigation, Marcotte admitted to biting the boy after she became frustrated and agitated with the child’s behavior. A warrant was obtained for her arrest and she was taken into custody Wednesday.
