Teacher accused of intentional exposure to AIDS
GRAY - Sheriff's deputies upgraded charges against a Terrebonne Parish teacher Thursday to include intentional exposure to AIDS.
Deputies arrested Derrick Nesby, 37, of New Orleans Wednesday evening on suspicion of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile. On Thursday, detectives upgraded his charges to include intentional exposure to AIDS.
Investigators said Nesby was a teacher and boys track coach at H.L. Bourgeois High School in Gray, and had a sexual encounter with a 16-year-old male student. They said Nesby denied the allegations, and was dismissed from the school.
Detectives questioned Nesby about the claims on May 9, but released him afterward and got a warrant for his arrest. Deputies picked Nesby up Wednesday after he went to the school to pick up personal property.
Nesby is currently in Terrebone Parish Jail on a $500,000 bond as the investigation continues. He is scheduled to appear before a magistrate Friday morning for arraignment on the additional charge.
