Teacher accused in sex crimes wanted to be a pastor
PLAQUEMINE - The baptist ministry won't be helping a teacher accused of having sex with his students become an ordained minister, religious leaders said Tuesday.
The Baptist Association of Greater Baton Rouge was vetting Keavin Keith. Keith, a teacher at the Math Science and Arts Academy West, was filling in at Victory Baptist Church following the death of a pastor.
The association met with him once and was planning to meet with him again this weekend, but will no longer following Keith's arrest Monday.
WBRZ was first to report Keith was booked on 37 counts of inappropriate behavior with students.
"This is a heartbreaking situation," Tommy Middleton, the head of the association.
Keith taught geography and civics and had once been named teacher of the year in Iberville Parish. He was released from jail Tuesday after posting a $100,000 bond.
