HAMMOND - Authorities hope dozens of recent arrests in Tangipahoa Parish will help put a dent in the area's growing residential burglary rate.
According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, 39 people and two juveniles were arrested because of collaboration between the sheriff's office and Hammond Police Department.
In December, detectives from Hammond PD and TPSO started working together to investigate burglaries that had been reported around the area. They learned many of their suspects had committed burglaries in nearby parishes, closed more than 40 cases and recovered more than $30,000 in stolen property.
Investigators said the crimes mostly took place in the southern end of the parish, south of Tickfaw. The task force received help from State Police and Amite PD, as well as sheriff's offices in Livingston, Independence and St. Helena parishes.
People in Tangipahoa Parish that are the victims of burglaries can contact the task force at (985) 902-2088.
