HAMMOND - Tangipahoa Sheriff's deputies served arrest warrants for six sex offenders last Thursday, hoping to send a message to offenders to stay registered or face consequences.
Authorities arrested Billy Joe Hart, 44; David Lee Beauchamp, 52; Kevin Lee Jarrell, 40; Kelcy Williams, 34; Zemmon Quillian, 54; and Sedrick Watts, 42 while conducting compliance checks on area sex offenders.
Officers divided into teams on the morning of May 10 and in an attempt to serve 12 warrants in Tangipahoa Parish to non-compliant sex offenders. They were able to locate six.
In addition to the warrants, officers performed surprise compliance checks on 53 other sex offenders.
"Our goal in conducting these types of operations is to send a message to area convicted sex offenders that compliance with sex offender registration laws is expected and required," said Sheriff Daniel Edwards.
Sex offenders are required to register accurate personal information to the law enforcement authorities every six months or when they change residences.
