NEW YORK- Authorities in New York returned a complete Tyrannosaurus skeleton to the Mongolian government after it was smuggled into the U.S. The skeleton was looted from the Gobi Desert and Eric Prokopi smuggled the bones into the U.S. mislabeled as reptile bones from Great Britain and assembled them into the skeleton. He pleaded guilty to smuggling charges in a plea deal last December. The skeleton was sold by Dallas-based Heritage Auctions for more than $1 million, but the deal was suspended.
