GONZALES - Authorities in Ascension and Livingston parishes announced waterways in both areas will reopen for recreational boat traffic at noon today.

The rivers closed after heavy rain and flooding swelled local waterways to unsafe levels.

Several parishes around the state delcared disasters after the flooding damaged bridges, homes and other structures.

Gov. Jindal also declared a state of emergency to help parishes deal with the flooding.
