SUV crashes into Mardi Gras tractor driver
MARRERO - An operator of a Mardi Gras tractor is clinging onto his life after he was struck by an SUV early Saturday morning near New Orleans.
Deputies with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Department say a drunk driver ignored a traffic light and crashed into 52-year-old Don Dauzat while he was driving his tractor. The crash threw Dauzat off his tractor and onto the highway causing him to suffer from severe head trauma.
Auhtorities say Dauzat was one of a group of tractor operators trying to reposition their vehicles after a Mardi Gras parade on Friday.
Deputies charged 54-year-old Michael Burrie with driving while intoxicated, reckless operation and vehicular negligent injury.
Authorities say Dauzat is on life support at a local hospital and is in severe critical condition
