LAFAYETTE - Police in Lafayette said a bomb threat that caused the closure of one of Louisiana's largest universities was a hoax.

Louisiana state police said a suspicious package found near campus was not an explosive device, but was made to look like one.

Earlier reports indicated that there was a second explosive device, but state police said no other devices were found during their sweep of the area.

The university announced the reopening of on-campus residence halls and dining facilities on Wednesday afternoon.

Regularly scheduled classes and activities for the roughly 5,500 students enrolled in summer school and 400 freshmen attending orientation will resume Thursday.

State police said no suspects have been taken into custody at this point in the investigation and urged anyone with information to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
